Private, Nonprofit Colleges and Universities Generate $591.5 Billion in U.S. Economic Impact

Private, nonprofit colleges and universities, including 乐播传媒, play significant roles in the everyday lives of those living and working in college communities and are important contributors to the nation as a whole. In fact, a recent report from the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) found that America鈥檚 private, nonprofit colleges and universities are a vital economic engine to the nation, generating $591.5 billion in economic impact in 2018-2019.

乐播传媒 plans to hold in-person, indoor Commencement ceremonies for the undergraduate class of 2020 on Saturday, May 1, for the undergraduate class of 2021 on Saturday, May 8 and for the MAT classes of 2020 and 2021 on Friday, May 7. Each graduating student will be permitted to invite up to four in-person guests to the ceremony.

乐播传媒 recently established the Ja鈥檒essa Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Ja鈥檒essa Morris, a 2011 乐播传媒 graduate who passed away Oct. 24, 2020. After graduating from 乐播传媒, she earned a master鈥檚 degree at the University of West Georgia before moving to Guilford College in North Carolina. At Guilford, Morris served as a residential education and housing community director, and more recently, as a career guide.

乐播传媒, its Board of Trustees and its Committee on Renaming do not in any way condone the act of slavery. Regarding the name of the College, after an in-depth review of historical documents about Young L.G. Harris鈥檚 life, as well as numerous discussions, we, the Committee on Renaming, decided that 乐播传媒 will continue to be known as such. We believe the positive reputation and value 乐播传媒 has earned is based on its commitment to the Wesleyan tradition of higher education to develop both trained minds and warm hearts, not on the reputation of its namesake.

Statement from 乐播传媒 regarding the Recent Bomb Threat

On Monday, Oct. 5 at 8:52 a.m., 乐播传媒 students and employees were notified by text and email that the College received an anonymous bomb threat to the Rollins Campus Center (RCC). The RCC was evacuated immediately. In-person classes scheduled to take place on campus were cancelled for the remainder of the day. The 乐播传媒 Police Department, under the direction of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and with the support of multiple local and regional agencies, was able to secure the campus and discredit the threat by noon. The RCC was cleared for re-entry on Monday at 12:10 p.m. The GBI is in the process of tracing the threat.鈥淢any thanks to all of the officers who responded so quickly to make sure our campus and our community remain safe,鈥� said 乐播传媒 Chief Operating Officer Bo Wright.

乐播传媒鈥檚 Dr. Johnathan Davis Earns the 2020 Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award

On Monday, Aug. 10, 乐播传媒 hosted the 16th annual Clay Dotson Open golf tournament at Brasstown Valley Resort to raise money for student scholarships. Approximately 80 golfers played in the tournament, which raised more than $65,000.
